In 2023, the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) transitioned from paper checks to an electronic benefit using a QR code and PIN. Changes in the banking industry meant that states are no longer able to get the $4.00 checks to distribute. As with any big change, there is a learning curve and time needed for problem-solving. We’re grateful for everyone who has worked so hard to ensure that the FMNP program continues to help families buy directly from Washington farmers. In 2023, FMNP accounted for over $2,361,818 in sales to local growers.

How to use the e-WIC Vendor Portal

Which Vendor ID do I use if I have two?

If a grower sells at farmers markets and a farm stand, they will have two Vendor ID numbers. If the business name is the same for both, one will have “FM” after it for Farmers Market. The other will have “FS” after it for Farm Store. If the business name is not the same for both, then there will not be a FM or FS after the number. In that case, the first number listed is for the Farmers Market and the second is for the Farm Stand.

Scanning QR codes

You need to use the “Back Camera” to scan the QR code. Scanning the QR code can be fiddly. Tips are to try making sure that the QR code is flat. If it doesn’t work, then it could be because the shopper’s benefits are not yet activated. This was more of a problem in June and should be happening less and less.

If a shopper’s QR code is smudged or hard to read, the person can call Customer Service and have their QR code emailed or texted to them. Seniors can also call their local senior organization where they got the card and request a new one.

PIN numbers

The shopper is supposed to enter their PIN number. If they have not yet set up a PIN, then the Vendor Portal will say “Date of Birth. (MM/YY)”
– Shoppers may want growers to enter PIN
– Growers may not want to give shoppers their phone
– Try to wash your hands often, have sanitizer out, or use gloves if possible

Grower Applications

🥕 Growers apply with the Department of Health to be authorized to accept FMNP. Click here for “Information for Growers” If a grower was authorized and set up to accept FMNP in 2023, they do not need to reapply in 2024. All growers will need to reapply in 2025.
