WSFMA Membership

Thank you for your interest in becoming part of the premier network of farmers markets in Washington State. The WSFMA is dedicated to helping farmers markets meet today’s growing demands and thrive. We provide practical tools and support for market operations, promotions, advocacy, and research.

Members of the WSFMA are farmers markets that:

  •  Operate a farmers market in Washington State with a minimum average of 5 farmers per market day.
  •  Adhere to the Roots Guidelines which defines vendor categories and minimum criteria to be a farmers market.
  •  Complete the Annual Membership Application to the WSFMA and pay membership dues.
  •  Have Commercial General Liability insurance with the WSFMA as a named an Additional Insured.
  •  Share a vision of thriving, vibrant farmers markets united around support for local agriculture, good food for everyone, and healthy communities.

Benefits for our Farmers Market Members

  • Voting Privileges:  WSFMA member markets elect the Board of Directors charged with hiring the Executive Director, fiduciary oversight of the WSFMA, setting organizational policies, strategic directions, and policy priorities. The Board of Directors is also actively engaged in planning the annual conference.
  • Annual Conference: WSFMA members receive a discount at the annual farmers market conference — where the best networking of the year happens. Market staff, board members, and volunteers learn about industry best practices, updates to regulations and food access programs, and farmers market trends.
  • WSFMA Farmers Market Members Only Listserv: All WSFMA member markets’ staff have a direct line to other WSFMA market managers and much appreciated real-time, peer support on topics large and small.
  • Liability Insurance: Support accessing affordable, comprehensive general liability insurance for farmers markets and Directors and Officers liability insurance for your nonprofit Board.
  • Farmers Market Promotions: All member markets are included int the annual Washington State Farmers Market print directory distributed throughout the state. All members markets are also featured on our popular Find a Farmers Market online map.
  • Food Access Support: The WSFMA hosts Food Access Forums from October to April, provide only going support for SNAP, SNAP Market Match and the WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program; provides signage for programs; and each market has a “Regional Leads” assigned to them to provide direct support to help build, grow, and sustain programs that help low income shoppers.
  • Action Alerts: Email notification of updates, legislative and action alerts on issues important to farmers markets.
  • Policy Voice: WSFMA works with partners to advocate for state and federal policies that support farmers markets.
  • Technical Assistance Services: Access to a volunteer team of farmers market practitioners (WSFMA Board, staff and partners) to answer your questions.
  • National Connections: WSFMA members receive a membership in the Farmers Market Coalition with connections to farmers markets across the country and the annual Farmers Market Week Toolkit.
  • Members of the WSFMA receive a 25% discount when they become members of Nonprofit Association of Washington, a tremendous resource for any community-based organization. They have online resources, and offer in-person and online trainings.
  • New in 2023, WSFMA members get a discount of 20% on Manage My Market’s standard pricing for their farmers market management services.

Membership Dues

WSFMA membership dues are based on the Total Vendor Sales from the preceding season. This includes the total of all sales reported to the market from all vendors (regardless of vendor type) for the season. New farmers markets (with no historical sales data) are charged a New Market Rate of $150.00. Members are “single site” or “multiple site” farmers markets.

  • Single Farmers Market. These are farmers market organizations that manage one farmers market location. The farmers market may operate more than one day per week in this location.
  • Multiple Farmers Market Locations: Farmers market organizations that manage more than one farmers market location.

WSFMA Membership – The Voice of Farmers Markets in Washington State
